Medulance has used the benefits of technology to its fullest for a greater cause: to provide fast and reliable medical emergency services. They are India’s first GPS based platform for first point medical attention. With their advanced technology, this platform has saved and assisted 10,000 lives till now. They strive to execute India’s fastest emergency responses with the use of recent developments in technology.
“MEDULANCE HAS EXPANDED THEIR AMBULANCE NETWORK TO 5000 PLUS GPS ACTIVATED AMBULANCES ACROSS 22 LOCATIONS TO PROVIDE QUICK AND ACCURATE EMERGENCY RESPONSE. 150 AMBULANCE OWNERS ARE USING OUR APP-BASED FLEET MANAGEMENT SYSTEM”Pranav Bajaj
As said by a co-founder of Medulance, India has the highest death incidences due to the delay in ambulances. To recover from this problem, they provide GPS enabled high-quality Ambulances. Emergency Management Technology, Activation of In-house Medical rooms, and Imparting specialized First-Aid and safety training are some of the other services offered by Medulance. Their skilled frontline staff helps to minimize the response time and improve the patient admission process. To further solve this issue, they have convinced hospitals to outsource their emergency response. They share real-time data about the incoming patient with the hospital that is critical to saving the patient’s life.
“NEVER ENDING DATA AVAILABLE ON THE POOR STATE OF AMBULANCES IN INDIA AND DEEP RESEARCH INTO THE PERSONAL EXPERIENCES OF PEOPLE MOTIVATED US TO WORK ON THIS IDEA AND FIND WORKING SOLUTIONS”pranav bajaj
In 2010, one of the co-founder’s grandfather passed away due to the lack of efficient ambulance service. Incessant calls to hospitals, and government ambulance services didn’t help as well. It was this unfortunate event that paved the way for the launch of Medulance. Geo-location, the proliferation of smartphones, and digitization of medical records are ways that this company uses to reduce the response time.
“30 % of the people in an emergency lose their lives as they do not receive timely emergency services,” stated their co-founder. They believe it is the lack of awareness coupled with the lack of technology that prevents timely emergency services.
“EMERGENCY RESPONSE IS THE MOST CRITICAL TO THE LIFELINE OF ANY COUNTRY. MEDULANCE WANTS TO INSPIRE BREAKTHROUGHS IN THE WAY INDIA LOOKS AT AMBULANCES AND FIRST POINT MEDICAL ATTENTION, AND TO TOUCH LIVES”pranav bajaj
They advocate great leadership, the right collaboration, integrity, accountability, passion, and best quality, but for them, customers are the most important people in the value chain. They are now working to provide ERS at the touch of a button by 2022 with rich emergency data reaching the country’s relevant stakeholders.
They function by first understanding the patients’ requirements and then dispatching the closest high-quality ambulance tracked using their technology. The patients and his family can book an ambulance with their transparent pricing and track the ambulance and its driver. During the time of emergency, they can integrate their technology with the traffic police to provide a green corridor for ambulances. They aim to become the 1st ever PAN Indian ERS expert with unified network & Support.
“MEDULANCE HAS COMPETITORS WHO ARE STILL REGIONAL PLAYERS SUCH AS STAN-PLUS (HYDERABAD), SOS CARE (MUMBAI). BUT THESE COMPANIES ARE RESTRICTED TO WORKING ON B2C WITH LESS FOCUS ON TECHNOLOGY”pranav bajaj
Their recognition in this field is primarily due to their top-notch technology. Thus, it has become their greatest advantage against its competitors. Although currently, India doesn’t have any prominent national or regional player in the emergency response space, Medulance understands this field’s market dynamics at length and is working on finding scalable solutions already. Moreover, they see the government as a future partner as they would want to outsource the emergency response across states to a more focused technology-enabled emergency response player.
“THE BIGGEST ADVANTAGE OF VARIOUS SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS IS THAT A LOT OF THEM ARE FREE AND EASILY ACCESSIBLE. WE CAN TARGET AND REACH OUT TO A LARGE NUMBER OF POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS. IT HELPS IN ESTABLISHING A DIRECT CONNECTION WITH THEM”pranav bajaj
As they manage medical emergencies, they target both B2B and B2C customers. However, for their B2C customers, they effectively use Instagram and Facebook, where they update relevant posts and stories daily. For their B2B customers, they use LinkedIn and Twitter. From its initial days, they have remained self-funded by the founders. They spend about 5% of their revenue on marketing budget.
“BRAND IS YOUR PROMISE TO YOUR CUSTOMER. IT TELLS THEM WHAT THEY CAN EXPECT FROM YOUR PRODUCTS AND SERVICES, AND IT DIFFERENTIATES YOUR OFFERING FROM THAT OF YOUR COMPETITORS”pranav bajaj
They advise that consistent and strategic branding will lead to strong brand equity. It will add value to your company’s products or services that will help you to be ahead of the identical, unbranded products. Medulance is a brand that promises its customers as being the most technologically advanced and fastest emergency response service.
“MEDULANCE HAS RECENTLY PARTNERED WITH DELHI GOVERNMENT AND BELIEVES THAT B2G PARTNERSHIP WILL HELP MEDULANCE BECOME A PROMINENT NATIONAL OR REGIONAL PLAYER IN THE EMERGENCY RESPONSE SPACE”pranav bajaj
During their initial stage, Medulance solely focused on the B2C market. But they soon realized a person might not need their emergency service for years, but then might need it anytime, depending on the severity of the medical situation. Hence, repeat customers in ambulatory or emergency response services will be rare.
It was then when they shifted the focus to B2B customers as well that ultimately strengthened them. They started providing subscription-based models to their B2B clients that became a source of incremental revenue for Medulance. It helps them in maintaining the stability and profitability in the business.
“WE WANT TO EXTEND OUR SERVICES AND TECHNOLOGY IN THE FUTURE TO WORK WITH LEADING INSURANCE COMPANIES, CONNECTED CARS, WEARABLES, AND HOME SECURITY SOLUTIONS”pranav bajaj
As per one of the co-founders, to become India’s first technology ER Company, they would need more numbers, revenues, and scales. Extending their services to more organizations would be a great way to achieve this success. They are also working towards developing competence in futuristic solutions in ERS space through evolved Air Ambulance transportation and ERS through Drone. As far as ERS is concerned, these initiatives would help to reduce the gap between rural and urban consumers.
“MEDULANCE IS HELPING CORPORATES AND ORGANIZATIONS TO RESUME THEIR WORK BY PROVIDING PPES, AMBULANCES AND DOCTORS VISITS, TO ENHANCE WORKPLACE SAFETY AND HELP REVIVE THE ECONOMY & AID IN BRINGING NORMALCY”pranav bajaj
Like any other organization, Medulance has too faced challenges during the COVID-19 outbreak. However, they had to overcome these challenges as soon as possible, as emergency requests were of utmost importance at this time. Their fast services were now required more than ever. But they were not clear whether to ferry COVID patients to designated hospitals and quarantine centers. They also had to discern between COVID and non-COVID patients, sanitize the vehicle after carrying COVID positives, with other necessities. They faced a shortage of manpower as drivers and paramedics were not available.
They resolved these challenges by training their staff, paramedics, and drivers regarding COVID-19, providing safety gear to their frontline workers, and following all the SOPs formulated by WHO & MOHFW. They have partnered with the Government of Delhi, Directorate of Health Services, on a fast-track public-private partnership model where they have to provide 100 Basic Life Support ambulances to pick up Covid-19 suspected/positive cases. Since the outbreak, they have saved and assisted more than 4000+ covid suspect/positive patients.
