What does it mean to be a perfect mother? It is the title that all the mothers wish to achieve because that is what our society has instilled in their minds to be customary and normal. But if you fail to be one, then embrace yourself for all the constant criticism and judgment you’ll have to listen from people. And this is where Manali Tiwari comes in.
A mom blogger and a dentist who uses her platform to assure mothers that there is no such thing as a perfect mother. To her almost 20k Instagram followers, she brings into light the fact that it is okay for a mother to have flaws and make mistakes as they are also human beings with emotions.
She has always perceived motherhood as a ‘dreamy smooth and happy journey’. But she soon came face to face with the roller-coaster ride that motherhood is when she stepped into it herself. This unawareness Manali claims is because nobody informed her that there would also be the ‘gloomy, frustrating and unhappy parts of motherhood’ along with the happy moments. And now, she creates witty, sarcastic videos around motherhood that always have a strong message.
“EVERY CONTENT I MAKE AND TALK ABOUT, COMES FROM MY OWN PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, OR STUFF THAT’S HAPPENING TO MY FRIENDS AND THAT THEY ARE TALKING TO ME ABOUT. IT’S ALWAYS REALLY, REALLY PERSONAL. IT’S QUITE AMAZING TO SEE HOW SO MANY PEOPLE GO THROUGH SUCH SIMILAR THINGS”manali tiwari
A graduate and postgraduate in dentistry, Manali used to work as a dental consultant, but she took a break from it after having her child. However, motherhood let her find her passion elsewhere- creating raw, honest, and hilarious videos on motherhood. She tells us that she never makes scripts before filming a video. Since her videos are the recreation of moments she or her friends have already faced, the dialogues automatically flow out of her mouth, hence no need for scripts.
“I AM TRYING TO REACH OUT TO WOMEN WHO ARE TIRED OF THE BORING OLD ADVICE AND ARE IN NEED OF MORE AUTHENTICITY. IN OUR SOCIETY MOTHERS ARE PRESSURIZED TO CHASE AN UNREALISTIC FANTASY INSTEAD OF EMBRACING THE ADVENTURE”manali tiwari
Relatability and authenticity are the two core values of Manali’s content. She reveals that since mothers have this unrealistic set of expectations to meet, they stress over when they fail to do so as they think, “This isn’t how it was supposed to be! This isn’t how I see it on social media with other parents,”
In her recent video, ‘The art of breastfeeding in public’, Manali sheds light on how mothers struggle with breastfeeding in public, constantly finding places away from people like public toilets and changing rooms. And also covering themselves up as it makes people surrounding them feel ‘uncomfortable’. She created such scenes in a witty and sarcastic way in the video that her comment section flooded with affirmations and how relatable these scenes were.
“I WENT TO THE INTERNET BECAUSE I WAS A STAY-AT-HOME MOM. I WAS ISOLATED, AND THE INTERNET IS THE ONLY CONNECTION I HAD WITH THE OUTSIDE WORLD. MAKING VIDEOS ON MOTHERHOOD WAS A THERAPEUTIC OUTLET FOR ME WHEN I FELT LIKE I COULDN’T BE UNDERSTOOD”manali tiwari
She expressed that she wanted to speak on things that mothers don’t bring out to the open in fear of getting judged and shamed. A reason for her relatable content is because she doesn’t want parents to feel alone like she did once before being a mom blogger. It was when she felt that she is the only one going through the struggles of being a mother.
Her approach on talking about this essential motherhood related topics in a silly way is because it would let others listen and absorb as they won’t think it as some lecture. “In my content, you will find an image of a common mother, an average mother, a flawed mother, and that’s who I am. That’s the type of influencer I aspire to become” says Manali as she gets inspiration from every mother in our society. “My content aims to make Moms feel like the badass that they are, we moms just don’t realize it.”
“WHEN THE AUDIENCE CONNECTS WITH THE CONTENT THEY WILL SPREAD THE WORD…SOME DAYS A WORK WHICH I FEEL IS AMAZING DOESN’T WORK PROPERLY AND SOME DAYS A POST WHICH I FEEL IS NOT UP TO THE MARK DOES REALLY WELL”manali tiwari
Manali doesn’t have a fixed schedule on posting her content, and neither does she follow a specific upload time. She starts filming whenever an idea strikes her and uploads it whenever she wants. However, since she also has household duties and her toddler to take care of, Manali can only take out two hours of her time in a day to film for an entire video. Because of this limited time slot, there is no room for mistakes. She reveals that ‘once a shot is done it’s done,’ there is no time to retake a shot or take it from another angle. And a bit of editing is also done at that time.
“WHEN INFLUENCERS PROMOTE ANY BRAND THEY KNOW WHAT CONTENT WILL ATTRACT AND KEEP THEIR AUDIENCE HOOKED, AND ULTIMATELY BENEFIT THE BRANDS”manali tiwari
She shows great delight in the fact that brands now give complete liberation to influencers for promotions. While doing brand promotions, Manali always keeps in mind how she can produce content that is relatable to her audience while promoting the brand’s product at the same time. “Brands definitely want a good marketing strategy yet want influencers to be in their comfort zone” she tells us about what brands look for in a content creator for promotions.
The brands Manali has worked for relates to Motherhood, Parenting, and Self-care like iball, Luxar, mamaearth, Mothersparsh, and Firstcry. She is also associated with a few Influencer marketing platforms- Chtrbox, winkl, plixxo. They help her to connect easily with brands.
“THERE ARE DAYS WHEN I FEEL SUPER EXHAUSTED AND TIRED, DAYS WHEN I WANT TO GIVE UP BECAUSE THINGS DON’T GO ACCORDING TO THE PLAN BUT IT’S THE SUPPORT AND LOVE OF FOLLOWERS WHICH KEEPS ME MOTIVATED AND CHARGED EVERYDAY”manali tiwari
Being a stay at home mom where you have to take care of your super energetic toddler and keep creating content to stay on track, every day comes as a new challenge to Manali. She mentions that she has been working vigorously for the past 3-4 months; hence, the time taken out for relaxation doesn’t include in her day-to-day schedule.
One piece of advice from Manali to budding influencers – “If you can stay true to yourself, maybe the success won’t come as immediately, but if you keep working hard and stay authentic, you’ll find your calling.”
