Jyoti Ahuja, a mother of a two-year-old son and a mom blogger on Instagram, has a different perspective on parenting. It’s not much big of a concern for Jyoti whether her child knows counting numbers or the names of different colours. They’ll learn all about it in school one day, or the other is her definite answer to why she isn’t worried about these matters. However, there is one thing that Jyoti does concern herself with and is pretty serious about it- emotions of the child. Instead of scolding whenever her son is throwing tantrums or being angry, she delves deep into the psychological behavior of him and what is making him act in such a manner.
Although her son is only two, she has taught her self-feeding. Now he isn’t dependent on his mother to feed him. Moreover, unlike all the Gen-Z kids nowadays, he isn’t even fond of cell phones or Television. Instead of playing with battery-operated toys, he is always involved in whatever activity her mom is doing, whether it’s cooking or reading. And this mom blogger’s feed is filled to the brim with pieces of advice and tips of such.
“I STARTED WITH SHARING MY MOTHERHOOD JOURNEY, BUT THEN I LEARNED A LOT AND STARTED SHARING WHATEVER NEW I USE TO LEARN, BE IT ABOUT HOMESCHOOLING, LEARNING BY FUN, CONSCIOUS OR GENTLE PARENTING, HEALTHY FOOD FOR KIDS AND MUCH MOREjyoti ahuja
‘Gentle Parenting’ is the term one can use to define Jyoti’s parenting style. If one scroll through her feed, they will get to know all about it and even tips on how to do it. She explains that scolding or ignoring your child when they are in a bad mood or crying is not the solution. Instead, if you do so, the child will know that when you are angry or not happy with someone, this is how you act- being mad at them.
Jyoti deals with anger and tantrums of her son with gentleness. She allows him to cry and let out all his emotions. “Emotions have to come out,” she says. And after when he calms down, she teaches him why he can’t do this. Of course, she loses her patience also while dealing with this; after all, she is a human being. In fact, Jyoti reveals that growing up; she wasn’t the most patient person in the room. Moreover, during this lockdown, both mother’s and son’s moods have gone downhill. However, she controls her outburst by taking a deep breath and reminding herself that this will also affect her son’s future.
Apart from talking about gentle parenting, she also shares with her audiences anything new she learns; whether it’s about homeschooling, fun activities, DIYs, or healthy food. “The kind of response I started getting was commendable and overwhelming” she speaks on the result she gets after sharing this type of knowledge with her followers. Furthermore, she also conducts live sessions on her page, where she speaks with guests with specialties in different fields like gynecology, speech therapy, or child counseling. Therein, they answer questions from her followers on that subject.
I COMPLETED MY BACHELOR IN PHYSIOTHERAPY DEGREE IN 2013 THOUGH COULD NOT CONTINUE MY PRACTICE DUE TO MANY PERSONAL REASONS, BUT I WAS ALWAYS PASSIONATE WANTED TO DO SOMETHING IN LIFE”jyoti ahuja
After from studying Physiotherapy, she also has a knack towards writing and even did some online courses on it; however, she had to leave it in between as they planned a baby. Nonetheless, she doesn’t have any regrets that she couldn’t further continue her journey on these paths. Knowledge never goes to waste is what she believes in. Jyoti loves to write poetry, and she continues to do it where she can express all her emotions and feelings. But these poems are very close to her heart, and she keeps it personal. However, on her page, she does upload quotes after every 5th picture or so.
“I AM HERE SINCE NOVEMBER 2018, RISE I WILL SAY WHEN I SAW PEOPLE STARTED MESSAGING ME AND ASKING QUESTIONS REGARDING MY JOURNEY AND HOW I AM UPBRINGING HIM SPECIALLY WHEN THEY SAW HE IS SELF-FEEDER ON MY STORIESjyoti ahuja
Jyoti wants to use this platform to help and influence people. Throughout her motherhood journey, she has learned a lot about child psychology and other topics related to it by reading and watching videos and wants to spread this knowledge to other mothers as well. Her followers love and appreciate her posts on mom guilt and how she deals with tantrums without aggressions and wants to know more about it. Posts on these subjects also bought a massive shift in her mom blogging career.
On Instagram, she goes with the name of moms cruise. There is an important and valuable reason behind naming her page as such. “basically moms_cruise means that a mommy on the journey of motherhood on the cruise; the way cruise sails on the water with crest and trough of water flow, motherhood is similar to that, so I named it in that way” she says. “Sounds very philosophical, no…” Jyoti trails off.
IT [influencer marketing] IS REALLY EFFECTIVE CAUSE RATHER THAN ADS PEOPLE GET THE REAL PEOPLE WHERE THEY CAN CONNECT DIRECT AND QUESTION REGARDING ANY PRODUCT WE R LIKE MESSENGERS TO THEMjyoti ahuja
Jyoti explains that Influencer marketing is more effective than other forms, like giving advertisements on TV. Through Influencer marketing, people get to ask directly about that product to that influencer, which isn’t possible in TV advertisements. This type of brand marketing is more relatable, as there is more trust. As a result, more sell from the brand’s side and more satisfaction from the consumer’s side. However, she declares that often brands look for the followers count instead of the creator’s work while looking for influencers to promote their products. Brands overlook how genuine their followers are and the reach and engagement of a creator. However, she also goes to explain that not all brands are like that. “There are also some brands that really trust and give valuable work and appreciate the work we do… I have done those collaborations, and I am proud to be part of it,” she says.
“I WAS STUCK TO CERTAIN NUMBERS; ENGAGEMENT WAS NOT INCREASING I STARTED FEELING VERY DEMOTIVATED THOUGHT TO TAKE A BREAK AND MY HASHTAGS WHICH ARE STILL NOT WORKING SO STILL THAT’S A CHALLENGE FOR ME HAVE NOR OVERCOME YET”jyoti ahuja
One challenge she is facing at the moment is figuring out the right hashtags that work for her and gaining engagement. But with the help of some genuine crowd, she was able to cross 10k followers. It was one of her biggest challenges that she was able to cross and also her biggest milestone.
She is also on the lookout for doing collaborations with some respectful brands. But this is only the start of her journey. In the near future, she wants to see herself in the list of famous bloggers. This dream is not only for her own but for her son as well as she wants her son to remember her as an icon and know that she was able to achieve something. Apart from this, she has a loud and clear message for everyone. “A mom can do anything. Don’t think a stay at home mom is nothing and we can’t do anything. They can do and achieve anything they set their heart into,” she says.
